Gratifying to see that China is absorbing some of the volume from Australia’s huge production surplus. Prices at AUD$4/litre exported on average are nothing to write home about…and Australia could probably increase its production by 50% in a year by bringing mothballed vineyards back into production. The world is still sitting on a wine lake.
Georgia has no chance of capturing export market share based on price alone. It must sell the uniqueness of its indigenous grape varieties.
Also good to see that Chinese wineries are retaining Australian winemakers. The days of having to add lemonade to Chinese “Great Wall” Cabernet to make it drinkable may be at an end…
